Abstract

The challenges of COVID-19 pandemic to educational institutions which requires checkmate the amount of educational resources and facilities provided in teacher education institutions like the Colleges of Education (COEs) have led to this study. This study, therefore, sought to investigate the extent of resources provision in Colleges of Education (COEs) in Delta State during the COVID-19 pandemic era. Three research questions guided this study. The descriptive survey research design was employed in the study. Population for this study comprised a total of 774 academic staff of three COEs in Delta State. The sample size for the study consisted of 387 academic staff selected at 50% from the entire population using the simple random sampling technique. Instrument for data collection was a researchers’-developed questionnaire, containing 33 items and titled “Extent of Resources Provision Questionnaire (ERPQ)” which was structured on a 4-point rating scale of Very High Extent (VHE), High Extent (HE), Low Extent (LE), Very Low Extent (VLE). Both the validity and reliability of the questionnaire was established in the study. Data were analyzed using mean and standard deviation statistics. Findings of the study indicated among others, that the extent of resources (such as the technological, school plant and health resources) provision in Colleges of Education (COEs) during the COVID-19 pandemic era in Delta State were all to a low extent. From the findings, it was recommended among others, that the Government (Federal and State) with the cooperation of college management and assistance from the private sector as well as financial institutions should provide the necessary technological, school plant and health resources in the COEs in Delta State during the COVID-19 pandemic era through adequate funding and budgetary allocation.
