Abstract
Security of lives and property plays an important role in the development of any country as investors in any economy wants to be assured of the safety of their investment. Insecurity in Nigeria manifests itself through different forms like kidnapping, farmers-headers clash, Boko-Haram attack, insurgences, banditry, communal clash and of recent, adoption of secondary school students in the Northern part of the country and other violet activities that impede the progress of the country. This study examined the meaning, forms, causes and effect of insecurity on Nigeria, counseling and other strategies that could help in curbing insecurity in Nigeria. This paper also examined the use of technology in administering counselling through the use of print media, radio conversation, phones and SMS, Skype and zoom medium, video and video conferencing, internet facilities to mention but a few in order to find solution to cases of insecurity in the nation. It examined the effect of COVID-19 on Nigeria’s education system and how guidance and counselling can be used to curb the problem. And finally it gave some recommendation on how the issue of insecurity can be curbed or totally eradicated in Nigeria which include putting security measures in place and our borders strictly guided by security personnels who should be well equipped with good technological gadgets like sophistical ammunitions, radios and telephones. Community policing should be put in place. And being a law enforcement philosophy that allows officer to continuously operate in the same area in order to create a sharper bond with the citizens living and working in the same area one will discover that there will be bond between the citizen of the community and the security agents instead of leaving the jobs to the security agents alone, everyone comes out to fight and fish out law breakers, criminals and kidnappers could also be traced to their hidings, and that will go a long way to curb insecurity to mention but a few.
