The Journal of Education the Teacher and Professional Practices (JOETEPP) is inclusive journal that embraces all educational disciplines as far as teachers are involved in such disciplines. Thus, it addresses novel and contemporary educational and social issues in society. This edition focuses on COVID-19 Pandemic and related security issues, especially in the education sector and. The Covid-19 pandemic has had a profound impact on the education system in Nigeria. The pandemic has led to the suspension of in-person learning and caused schools to move to online and remote learning platforms. Despite initial challenges, the government has been working to make these platforms more accessible and effective.
At the same time, the pandemic has also created new security challenges for the Nigerian education system. With schools transitioning to online learning, there is an increased need for cyber security measures to protect student data from potential attacks and breaches. Additionally, since learning is now taking place online, there is an increased risk for online abuse, such as cyber bullying and other malicious digital activities.
The disruption of the education system has led to a sudden seemingly compounded the already escalating security situation in the country which manifests in loss of access to educational opportunities by marginalised people in Nigeria, who already faced a huge disadvantage due to poverty, gender, and geographical factors. In particular, the school closure and associated outcomes have impacted adolescent girls, who were previously already disadvantaged in terms of education.
In addition, the disruption of the education system has led to a loss of employment opportunities for young people and teachers, who often have no other sources of income. This has profound implications for their capacity to support their families. It has also led to a loss of human capital development, with potentially devastating long-term effects on the economy.
In order to address these human security issues and ensure that Nigerian youth are not further marginalised, it is important to take measures to make sure that education continues to use teaching resources more effectively to maximise access and learning and invest in digital and distance learning technologies to make up for the loss of educational opportunities and ensure that those most at risk are not left behind. Alongside this, it is important to ensure that vulnerable families have access to support that will help to minimise the economic and security impact of the pandemic on them. These and other related issues are scholarly addressed in this academic compendium. Readers and reviewers shall undoubted be encouraged to read on read more and write more on related issues as they impact the Nigerian education system.
